American Cheesemakers Tier

U.S. producers ranked by 2025 award count. International icons and mainstream brands get their own tiers next.

Heads up — this is one tier of three. What you're looking at is U.S. cheesemakers only, ranked by professional recognition in the cheese world. Plenty of the cheeses you actually buy and love aren't here — Brie de Meaux, Comté, Stilton, Manchego, Burrata, St. Agur, St. André, Boursin — because they're either traditional European cheeses or commercial brands that don't compete in this lane. Two more tiers are coming: International Icons (the canonical European traditional cheeses) and Everyday Mainstream (the commercial brands most people actually eat). The wine site's data model doesn't port directly to cheese, so v0.1 leans on professional recognition signals instead.

Methodology — v0.1 Producers ranked by aggregated professional recognition in the cheese world — the consistent picks of judges, mongers, and trade voices over recent years. The next version will deepen the data behind the rankings; expect placements below the top 5 to shift as more signal gets folded in.
Coming next — the other two tiers

International Icons — the European traditional canon (Brie de Meaux, Comté, Stilton, Manchego, Roquefort, Burrata, Parmigiano Reggiano, Gruyère, Époisses, and 20-odd more), drawn from the established cheesemonger curriculum.

Everyday Mainstream — the commercial brands people actually eat: St. Agur · St. André · Boursin · Brillat-Savarin · Délice de Bourgogne · Président Brie · Cabot Cheddar. The cheese equivalent of Kim Crawford on the wine site.

Plus per-style leaderboards (Cheddar · Blue · Bloomy Rind · Alpine · Goat · Sheep · Washed Rind) and a cheesemonger crossover analysis — same shape as the Insiders page for wine.
